An interview-based short documentary that explores the cultural and personal role of bread in the lives of the people we met in Narva. Filmed during our stay at the Narva Art Residency NART in August 2025, where we set up a temporary
BREAD LABORATORY to engage in an exchange on the topic of bread with local residents and Estonian artists.
The film reflects on memory, tradition, and community through the stories told around this staple food.

Leib on elu alus - Хлеб, всему голова - Bread is the Head of Everything
For some people from Narva, the first thing that came to mind was the Russian proverb ‘Хлеб — всему голова’.
So that became the title of the pop up exhibition we curated at the end of our residency.
It was based on three sources: what we discovered in Narva, what people sent us per Mail and what we carried in our luggage.
